Last year when the first time home buyers tax credit was close to expiring we heard talk about it being continued. And it was. This time around however there isn’t even a whisper of that happening.
Please, if you are at all considering buying a home to take advantage of the up to $8000 in Federal money get your ducks in a row. As of today there are only 50 days left to have a fully executed purchase agreement in place to qualify for the credit.
What is a fully executed purchase agreement? One in which you (the buyers) and the sellers have fully agreed upon price & conditions and both parties have signed & dated. In order to qualify for the tax credit this must be done by April 30th of this year. (You have until June 30th to close on the home.)
One more thing: Don’t ask your real estate agent, the sellers agent and the seller to backdate a purchase agreement for you. It’s fraud. We won’t be a party to it.
