I hate to be a nag (even my hubby doesn’t call me a nag :-), yet I find myself having to do so today.
Because of recent calls from people asking if the federal First Time Home Buyers tax credit will be extended again it reminds me to remind you! There has been NO word or rumors from the government that this will be extended as it was last December. In fact, any time it has been mentioned we are hearing a resounding “no”.
If one of your goals to purchasing a home this winter (rather, early spring) is to receive the up to $8000 tax credit you had better find that home soon. You must have a purchase agreement in place by April 30th. There are no exceptions to this. You also have to close on the home by June 30th of this year. (This may hurt you if you are purchasing a home in which the sellers are seeking short sale approval.)
As always, I recommend that if you are going to purchase a home that you use the service of a buyers agent. In 99% of the cases it doesn’t cost you anything.
