“Who picks the home inspector” – YOU do. — Tips for Macomb County MI home buyers

July 23rd, 2012 · 1 Comment · Home inspections, tips for home buyers

Having a home inspection in Macomb County MIOne of the most daunting processes for home buyers in our area (Macomb County) is the home inspection process.   The question I am asked so frequently by my buyer clients is :  “Who picks the home inspector?”

YOU do.

It’s so important for you to have a home inspector that works for YOU, not for the seller, not for the real estate agents.

If you don’t already have a home inspector picked out via a referral from family or friends, then I will give you the contact information for 3 or 4 home inspectors.  YOU call them and interview them and decide on who you feel will do the best job for you.  The inspectors information that I give to you will all be inspectors that I would trust to use on my own home purchase or that of family members and friends.  They have proven themselves over the years to be thorough and truly concerned about a home buyers purchase.

The home inspection itself is set up just like a home viewing appointment.   You make the appointment with the inspector, then I make the call to the listing agents office to set the appointment with the sellers.

I do attend all home inspections, but I try to stay out of the way so that you can feel free to follow the inspector around the home and ask as many questions as you would like without feeling rush.  By the way, a thorough home inspection should take at least 2 hours, and often times up to 3 hours.

It is VERY important that the home inspector works for you, the buyer.    As a buyers agent I want you to be happy and comfortable when you close on your new home and move in to it.  A thorough home inspection is a big part of that happiness and comfort.

Well Said! It’s very important to be comfortable with and confident in your home inspector. Never be afraid to ask questions before and during the inspection!
